GREEN IN GOOD SHAPE FOR THURSDAY'S GAME
With good weather predicted to continue up till the week-end the Edgeley Road green promises to be in tip-top condition for the visit of third placed Crown this coming Thursday. The men from the A6 will be looking to get their promotion bid back on track in what promises to be a mouth-watering encounter. LMRCA occupy fourth position, just one below their opponents, and will be looking to build on their growing reputation which has proven the 'Railers' to be a more than capable outfit. A glimpse at the league table below shows the Crown will be looking for victory as they attempt to make up ground on second placed New Mills:

LMRCA UP TO FOURTH WITH FIRST 'AWAYDAY' SUCCESS
A superb piece of 'backs to the wall' mentallity ensured an LMRCA victory against a strong Great Moor side, sitting, pre-match, one place above the 'Rail' in the table. Success at Store Street had earned the lads their first ever away win in 'B' Division and a fitting reward meant that fourth place, the highest position in the club's 26 year history, had also been achieved.

LMRCA SHOW STEADY PROGRESS IN FIRST HALF OF SEASON
With a total of 86pts from 11games the lads have proved their pedigree as they embark on the second half of the 2008 season. LMRCA will be looking to improve further in the second half of the campaign and a fourth place final finish is not beyond the team. With the Crown, New Mills and Victoria proving themselves to be a class above the remainder of the division it is vital that the team look to pick up points at home and battle for every chalk in away matches. A look at the league table below gives the full picture of the season so far.

An 11-3 home victory over near neighbours the Grange at Edgeley Road last night propelled the LMRCA into Fifth position in 'B and claim the 26 year old club's highest ever league placing. This is a fantastic achievement and all the squad can feel rightly proud. With the team comprising of a number of players who started in 'F' with the club it is heartening to see the spirit of the side still shining brightly. There is the second half of the season to play for and with the continued self belief, strength and confidence in our ability to compete at this level the future looks bright.

GREEN IN GOOD SHAPE FOR 'DERBY' GAME
The 'Magic Diamond' looks in superb condition after a good few days of wall to wall sunshine as the LMRCA prepare for the visit of local neighbours the Grange. The two clubs lie within five minutes walking distance of each other and the game promises to have all the flavour of a local derby. A look at the league table shows the Edgeley Road outfit sitting in sixth place and looking to consolidate on a creditable first season in 'B' division. Whilst the Grange having suffered something of a slump in recent weeks lie in ninth place uncomfortably close to the dreaded relegation trap door.
DIVISION B | P | W | L | D | Pts |
| Victoria 1 | 10 | 8 | 1 | 1 | 112.0 |
| New Mills 2 | 10 | 9 | 1 | 0 | 111.0 |

| Grapes Hotel 2 | 10 | 2 | 8 | 0 | 43.5 |
| P/Friendship 1 | 9 | 1 | 8 | 0 | 33.5 |
Victoria still lie top after suffering a 9-6 defeat at third place Crown who in spite of victory, lost ground on second place New Mills. The 'Millers' put in a fine performance to come away from Hazel Grove with a bumper 13.5pts. At the bottom PATF look to be in for a real struggle if they are to escape relegation, currently occupying bottom place, some 10pts adrift of the sides immediately above them. Grapes, Royal Oak on 43.5pts and the Grange on 53.5 make up the bottom four. In mid-table LMRCA could climb as high as fifth if they manage eight winners against the Grange on Thursday evening, but with the visitors in real danger of being sucked into the relegation mire the Edgeley Road outfit will be showing their opponents every respect. The lads will be well aware that teams at the bottom are fighting for their lives and in local derby situations the risk of slip-ups greatly increase.

LMRCA NEED A SPRING IN THERE STEP
It's a big game for LMRCA this Tuesday 20th May when they travel to Compstall to face Spring Gardens. Both sides are in mid table at present though Spring Gardens look a useful yardstick considering they plyed their trade in A Division last season. In the last home match in Compstall Gardens registered 10 winners out of 10 and it will be a tough test on a green which is likely to be running. LMRCA will need to bounce back from Adshead cup defeat against Victoria 2nds. It should be a good night why not get down to Compstall and cheer the lads on? (JB)
LMRCA PLAYERS PROUDLY REPRESENT CHESHIRE
Two LMRCA bowlers proudly represented Cheshire on Sunday in the BCGPA county championships. Don Marsden continued his impressive early season form to defeat Neil Mylan 21-19 at Ladybridge Park in a thriller. The Cheshire home side Don was part of could only muster 4 winners against a far superior Yorkshire side. Jamie Bramley meanwhile found things tougher against a homester at Spen Victoria, Cleckheaton in Yorkshire. Bramley played better than a 10-21 defeat implies as the away Cheshire side went down by 136 chalks and only managed one winner. (JB)
VICTORIA LAND CUP SUPRISE
LMRCA were dumped out of the Bill Adshead Cup on Sunday against Victoria 2 at James North Park in Hyde. In truth although one division below LMRCA, Victoria 2 are unbeaten this season and had a very strong side who could well go all the way in the cup. Beaten comprehensively LMRCA did manage 3 winners supplied by Jamie Bramley, Don Marsden and Geoff Hollis. (JB)

TWO LMRCA PLAYERS LOOK FORWARD TO A BUSY SUNDAY
Jamie Bramley and Don Marsden will be having busy day this coming Sunday with both players appearing in the morning for the club in the second round of the Adshead Cup and dashing to represent their County side in the afternoon. Jamie's situation is slightly more precarious as he has to get to the LMRCA club to catch the coach to South Yorkshire immediately after completion of his game whilst Don Marsden has more time on his hands as he is due to appear for the home side at Ladybridge Park at two o'clock. Our opponents have kindly agreed to an eleven o'clock start, an hour earlier than the original noon kick off scheduled to take place at James Norths in Hyde.
LMRCA SETTLE IN TO THEIR NEW SURROUNDINGS
LMRCA have made a steady start to the 2008 campaign, the club's first ever in 'B' Division. With 5 games completed the Edgeley Road club are lying in 6th place having secured 35.5pts from their opening fixtures. The two other promoted sides, Hazel Grove and Grapes are currently sitting below the LMRCA with the men from Gee Cross looking certs for relegation even at this early stage. PATF also appear to be in for a severe test if they are to avoid their second relegation in succession whilst the Royal Oak, in third bottom look for consolidation after a mass exodus in the winter appears to have hit the club hard. Grange sit just above the Oak but only half a point better off and after only avoiding relegation in 2007 through league re-structuring, will need to keep their wits about them if they are to avoid becoming sucked into the relegation dogfight. At the top sit the Crown who look to have the quality to gain promotion along with Victoria lying just a point behind them in second on 60.5pts. New boys New Mills look to be a strong outfit but could be handicapped by lack of green knowledge away from home. They lie presently some 10.5pts off the pace in third place.Crown 1 5 5 0 0 61.5 Victoria 1 5 5 0 0 60.5 New Mills 2 5 4 1 0 51 Spring Gardens 1 5 4 1 0 44.5 Great Moor 1 5 3 2 0 43 LMRCA 5 2 3 0 35.5 Nursery 2 5 2 3 0 33.5 Hazel Grove 1 5 1 4 0 27.5 Grange 1 5 2 3 0 25.5 Royal Oak 1 5 1 4 0 25 P/Friendship 1 5 1 4 0 18.5 Grapes Hotel 2 5 0 5 0 18

LMRCA'S Vets team sit proudly at the top of 'B' division after three games with a return of 234 points over their nearest rivals Great Moor Cons 2 who lie 6 points behind on 228. This is a good start to the 2009 campaign and the guys are more than capable of achieving promotion to 'A' Division.

LMRCA 'READY' TO HOST FULL INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
The club received a boost the other night when one of our players reported that an enquiry had been made by a senior county bowler as to the availablity of the Edgeley Road venue should it be considered for a Cheshire County Championship game. Whilst recognising that this approach was carried out on an informal basis the LMRCA would be more than ready to host such an event and this could only help increase the profile of the club.

LMRCA OCCUPY IT'S HIGHEST EVER POSITION IN DIV B
LMRCA will be looking to build on a promising start to the 2009 campaign after a comfortable 10 to 4.5pts victory over Great Moor Cons last Thursday propelled the Edgeley Road outfit into fifth position and with it the club's highest ever league placing since it's birth some 26 years ago. The victory at Edgeley Road was especially pleasing for skipper Les Myatt who commented after.
"The squad has grown up over the past three years and it gives me a feeling of immense pride to see this team competing and matching sides such as Great Moor tonight. It's only a few years ago that we were quite a way behind these kind of teams".
Unlike previous seasons the big games keep on coming starting with a trip to second place Crown Hotel on Tuesday evening. This clash promises to prove a stern test for the 'Rail' and possibly a yardstick for the remainder of the season. A good result could propel the LMRCA to new heights but the lads are under no illusion to the size of their task. It is important that, win or lose, the squad have no regrets with no 'what ifs'. to consider after. The lads must be on the top of their game both on the green and around it and extract every chalk available to them if they are to give themselves a chance.

LES MYATT NAMES TEN FOR CRUNCH MATCH AT THE CROWN
Les Myatt has named the ten that will face the Crown Hotel next Tuesday (6 May). The home side currently lie second in the table with 50.5pts from their opening four games and will prove a stern test for the Edgeley Rd outfit. With Les Myatt absent, Don Marsden once again steps in as captain and is really looking forward to the challenge. "This will give our lads an opportunity to measure their recent progress against quality opposition. With players like Neil Jenkinson in the side we know we will have our work cut out but it is important that we do not allow them to settle into an early rythm and must match them verbally around the edges of the green. We will give it a right good go".

DAVE EASLEY FORCED TO QUIT GAME
LMRCA were dealt a blow earlier today when Dave Easley announced that he would be unavailable for the remainder of the season due to work commitments. A regular in last season's championship campaign, David had yet to make an appearance this term after a bout of flu had sidelined him for the opening match at New Mills. Due mainly to the size of the squad he had been unable to win back his place being forced to sit out the club's first four games.
KEITH ROBINS HEADS TO JAMES NORTH
Keith Robins has also decided to leave LMRCA due to lack of team appearances. Keith leaves the club with our best wishes for the future and hopefully the ten a-side situation can be reversed for 2009 before the trickle of departures becomes a mass exodus.

WATER EVERYWHERE BUT LMRCA DO NOT HAVE SINKING FEELING
Heavy overnight rainfall could put a different complexion on today's cuptie at Spring Gardens. Already having to give their 'D' division opponents, High Lane, a sizeable 25 chalk start handicap, the prospect for more heavy showers through the morning could seriously hamper the 'Rail's' cause. The lads remain upbeat and with the three players coming in for their first game this term looking to keep their hard won places, the side is sure to have that determined look about it.

LES MYATT NAMES TEN TO FACE HIGH LANE 'D' ON SUNDAY
The ten to face High Lane 'D' in the Ashead have been named. Steve Smith comes in for his first game and will be relishing the opportunity after a cold night on the sidelines at New Mills last Tuesday. John Newbold also seizes his chance after a blistering end of season 2007 run that saw him win his four remaining games to single figures. Paul Murphy also comes in for his first game of the season as the 'Rail' set off in search of cup glory. Don Marsden will stand in as captain in the absence of the legendary Les Myatt and was keen to comment; 'The lads are ready to bounce back after last Tuesday and with the three players (Paul Murphy, Steve Smith and John Newbold) coming in to the side the attitude of the squad could not be more competitive." UP FOR THE CUP AT SPRING GARDENS THIS SUNDAY V HIGH LANE
The team are peparing for a trip to Spring Gardens this Sunday, 13 April to tackle High Lane. An early break from league action will give the lads an opportunity get into some kind of form as the new season enters it's early phase. The team for this game is yet to be announced as skipper Les Myatt juggles with his large squad but a good cup run could be beneficial to team confidence as a tough campaign in B is anticipated. Transport will be leaving the club car park at 1115am and anybody fancying taking in the game is more than welcome.

LES MYATT NAMES SQUAD FOR NEW MILLS TRIP
Skipper Les Myatt has named his starting ten to face New Mills 2 in the opening game of the season this coming Tuesday. The lads are really up for the club's first ever game in B Div and will need little motivation for this one. Opponents, New Mills 2 having only entered the league this season and are to some extent an unknown quantity, but with several Buxton based lads in their number they are sure to be a pretty useful outfit.
THE TEAM

MIKE GERAGHTY WITHDRAWS HIS SERVICES
Mike Geraghty has decided against joining LMRCA on the eve of the new season and it is without doubt the ten a-side situation played some part along the way. Despite this setback confidence still runs high within the squad as the club prepares for it's debut in B Division with a trip into Derbyshire to take on New Mills. Peter Smith, Mike's team-mate at the Lloyd's club in Chorlton has decided to stay and help the Edgeley Road outfit make an impact in their new surroundings for the coming season.

Without any real bowls behind them all winter LMRCA pushed an all star team from Frodsham Red Lion mightily close at the Union Club last night. writes Jamie Bramley.
It was a freezing cold night and judging bowls under the lights proved extremely difficult. Jack Bramley faced a real roasting against Rob Mckernan when trailing 4-14. However he soon came to hand to draw level at 16-16 and reallly rattle his perhaps more illustrious opponent. Mckernan found a mark and ran away 21-16 but with LMRCA receiving 10 start not much damage had been done. Meanwhile The Pea Launcher had started well in the corners to lead up 5-1 against another Red Lion player Winnington. The game ebbed and flowed and with some very tight ends this game was soon 16-16 Predictably Winnington used all his experience to run away 21-16 winner and level the game going into the last two jacks. Ian Striker Myatt was not getting his length though and faced a hefty hammering against Graeme Foster in the corners. At 6-20 down Myatt stole a single and got hold of the jack. The Rail lad then platted the top edge of the green to count 3 doubles and edge back to 12-20. Even then Myatt produced a 3 inch bowl only to watch on as Fosters last bowl sealed a 21-12 win for his team. That all contrived to mean Bryan Allcock would have to win 21-12 to force a draw or 21-11 to steal the win. All eyes turned to his game with Peter Jones and the early exchanges saw a fresh Allcock lead up 8-0. The Sausage and Mash star was fired up and at 19-10 up both teams felt the tension. Ironically Jones got a double on a short mark and guaranteed the Mid Cheshire lads at least a draw. Allcock not to be outdone grabbed a double at tht next end and forced the draw. After a short discussion the Rail Lads chose Jamie Bramley and Bryan Allcock to play the extra time games both 21up. Just before going on the green the Rail were spurred on by the arrival of another supporter Keith Robins and with Captain Les Myatt enjoying a beer or two it was game on. Amazingly Bramley was paired with Winnington again. The hero from the first set of matches Allcock would face Mckernan. The Pea Launcher started very slowly still suffering from the flu he was down and out at 7-2 against. However The Pea's were soon on fire on the bottom edge and he had rallied into a 10-7 lead. The bad news though was that Allcock was 19-4 down against Mckernan and the Northwich lad counted a double at the next end to seal Allcocks fate. Bramley and Winnington shook hands halfway through there game to ensure other bowlers could come on the green as there match was noW academic.
A great night for the LMRCA lads beaten in Extra time by a team some may consider to be far superior. A thoroughly enjoyable night on the whole as the Rail Lads headed back to the club satisfied that the cobwebs for the season were blown off.

STOCKPORT PARKS B DIV GOES TO 8 A-SIDE
The game in Stockport was dealt another blow this week when an AGM held at Victoria BC on Wednesday 19 March voted in favour of eight a-side teams in B Division for the coming season. With the main AGM scheduled at the end of the year to determine the fate of the A Division for the 2009 season the future of Parks in the borough seems uncertain. This move coupled with the recent S&D decision to go to ten really highlights the downward trend of bowling in the Stockport area. Our own Jamie Bramley, merely reflecting the view of many bowlers, felt moved to post his comments on the Stockport Bowls website.
F--K ME
THIS IS WHAT BOWLS HAS COME TO A FEW LINES IN THE STOCKPORT EXPRESS BY FRANK QUIGLEY.
I WILL EXPLAIN WHAT I MEAN.
REMOVE THE POST IF YOU WANT I HAVE LOST THE PLOT ON THIS ONE.THE STOCKPORT PARKS LEAGUE MIGHT NOT MEAN MUCH TO THE MAJORITY BUT I FOR ONE STARTED PLAYING IN THIS LEAGUE WHEN I WAS JUST FOUR.
IT DOESN'T HELP WHEN YOUR OWN CLUB SECRETARY DOESNT TELL YOU THERES AN AGM BUT THATS ANOTHER FEKKIN MATTER.
YES YOU GUESSED IT
STOCKPORT PARKS B DIVISION REDUCES TO 8 MEN PER TEAM 2008
MR QUIGLEY COMMENTS IN HIS COLUMN THAT THIS WILL SAFEGUARD THE FUTURE OF THE LEAGUE
BOLLOX THIS WILL SAFEGUARD F--K ALL IT IS THE NEXT STEP TOWARDS THE LEAGUE WINDING DOWN.
ITS SO FRUSTRATING TO SEE ALL THESE LEAGUES HEADING FOR THE ABYSSS WHEN SO MANY ARE WORKING HARD TO PROMOTE THE GAME.
MAYBE MR QUIGLEY SHOULD STOP TURNING UP TO CHECK SCORECARDS AFTER THE GAME AND SEE WHATS REALLY GOING ON IN BOWLS.
I KNOW THE CLOWNS BEHIND THE REDUCTION TO 8-ASIDE IN B DIVISION AND THEY ARE THE SAME CLOWNS THAT ARE ON MORE COMMITTEES THAN GORDON TAYLOR
ITS ONLY 2 WEEKS AGO THAT I HAD TO TURN AWAY TOP CLASS PLAYERS FROM JOINING LMRCA DUE TO THE REDUCTION TO TEN.
NOW I HAVE 4 NEW MEMBERS AT LOVE LANE TO CONSIDER, HOW CAN WE FIT 15 PLAYERS INTO 8??????
SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO BE SELFISH AND SAY THE CLUB HAS TO PASS A RULE THAT THE BEST 8 ARE SELECTED EACH WEEK AND FECK THE REST.
I JUST DONT KNOW THE WAY FORWARD NOW
AND YES I HAVE COMPLETELY SEEN MY A--E
IVE GOT A LITTLE BOY AT HOME WHO WILL WANT TO BOWL LIKE HIS DAD IN 4 YEARS TIME
WHERE THE HELL WILL HE BOWL???
ON THE MOON???
Frank Quigley reporting in this week's Stockport Express also adds: At the main AGM scheduled at the end of this year clubs will have to decide whether to reduce A Division teams to eight players for the 2009 season to safeguard the future of the Stockport Parks Bowling league.

21UPTV...THE PLACE TO BE...
With the new bowls season fast approaching, the football campaign is nearing it's conclusion. 21UPTV plans to cover goals action as Stockport County continue their quest for promotion. Whether it be via the play-offs or top a three finish. 21UPTV...THE PLACE TO BE...plans to be there for all the twists and turns in events as they happen. DON'T FORGET...21UPTV...THE PLACE TO BE. "Probably the best tv coverage for local sport in the world."
VETS IN PLAYER CRISIS
The club's veterans section has suffered a steady decline in player numbers as the new season approaches. Club captain Tom Davies is on the look-out for new recruits and despite an advert on the Stockport bowls message forum has so far drawn a blank. If anybody of post retirement age, or knows of a person looking for a hobby to fill his summer afternoons why not drop us a line on our message board on our 'WELCOME' page.
04MAR2008 FIRST GAME OF NEW SEASON AND A TRIP TO NEW MILLS The fixtures came out yesterday and we travel up to New Mills on Tuesday 8 April for the club's first ever game in B Division. Our first home fixture comes the week after on Thursday 17 April when we play hosts to Nursery 2. For full list of LMRCA fixtures click on our 'RESULTS AND TABLES' page. 29FEB2008 FEELINGS RUN HIGH AS TEN A-SIDE WINS THE DAY Last night's contraversial voting result has stirred up a huge number of comments from the bowling fraternity. Up t' nob n' back wrote: The Bungalow concert room was packed tonight as the much awaited verdict on the attempt by thirteen member clubs, led by LMRCA to overturn the decision to go to ten a-side for the coming season. The debate got heated at times with exchanges between various individuals But the vote went the way of ten a-side which was bitter blow to our club. I have posted a note on the Stockport Bowls website as follows: 28FEB2008 CRUNCH TIME THIS EVENING AT THE BUNGALOW As the SGM approaches there has been a number of suprising turn-arounds from member clubs. Woodley Sports, originally backing the twelve a-side motion have held their own AGM and decided to go with ten a-side. George & Dragon, originally firmly in the twelve camp, have also had a change of heart and decided to go with ten. The Grapes have made their intentions clear as they back twelve. Victoria and the Crown Hotel also wish to continue with twelve. The Stockport Bowls website has seen frantic activity over the past few days as opinions for and against have been submitted. Whatever the outcome tonight at the Bungalow it promises to be a close run vote. The list of clubs going with the LMRCA proposal is as follows: LMRCA-VICTORIA-CROWN HOTEL-GRAPES-GREAT MOOR-HAZEL GROVE-NURSERY-POYNTON SPORTS-WAGGON-WHALEY BRIDGE-NEW MILLS and HOULDSWORTH.
Now after having slept on it I feel no different. So here goes…… I’m pulling no punches and would like to stress that the views I am expressing here are my own and not representative of this web-site or even The Nursery BC. I am happy for anybody to attribute these views to myself should they feel the need.
The Committee:-
Brian Keating:-
Brian, you wrote to The Nursery and other clubs to inform us of the SGM and in that letter asked that we come with the requisite number of delegates to ensure we could have our maximum number of votes.
Why then were you obstructive, dismissive and plain rude towards those present from your opening words of the night ? You seemed determined to deny those present what they believed they were there for….. A DISCUSSION & A VOTE.
Keith Deighton:-
Keith, I’ve known you almost as long as I have played the game and at times I couldn’t believe some of the things you were saying last night. Like Brian you seemed intent on preventing the member clubs from either discussing or voting on the matter in hand, despite the invite from The League Committee to do just that.
However, that was just the beginning, your most disappointing comments were saved for once the meeting had ended and I think revealed more about your views than you can possibly be comfortable with. I will say first that the verbal abuse you were subjected to was equally as distasteful, but as a senior member of the committee, you should never have allowed yourself to be drawn in to such a display and risen above it.
So what did you say Keith that was so offensive ? Well you described/dismissed a considerable number of HWMC club members as “foreigners”. Not in itself an insult, but the intent was clear. You were implying that clubs who do there utmost to promote the S&D far and wide, beyond the town’s boundaries and the players who are subsequently attracted by them to play in this league, are somehow of lesser value. When in truth quite the opposite is true. Where does that leave me ? I’ve not lived in an SK postcode for over twenty years. I mean….. New Mills…… Whaley Bridge….. they’re both in “fekkin Derbyshire”, as are no doubt many of there members. Are they not welcome ? We actually have members who need to use the motorway to get to games…! Surely they can’t be welcomed in your small minded, blinkered view of the S&D League. Christ !……. just remembered, we have Jo Blessyn signing for us next year….. think we’ll save him for the Altrincham League wouldn’t like to see your reaction to him in Poynton !
The prime and over-riding raison d’etre for the league and its committee is to promote crown green bowls within Stockport. Its about where the game is played…. Not where the bowlers are from. Given that, I think your comments make your position untenable. You should be ashamed.
Ian Potts:-
Again, Ian I’ve known you for years and I felt embarrassed for you sometimes last night. Stuck between Keith and Brian you looked decidedly uncomfortable for most of the evening.
The Remainder of The Committee.
How could you leave the meeting that arranged the SGM without a consensus of opinion as to exactly what was going to going to be happening last night ?
Well here’s what I think and this is possibly the most damning of all of Messrs Keating & Deighton behaviour.
I believe that you had decided we were to take a vote, but the above two individuals subsequently discussed the matter out of committee and decided to follow their own agenda. Surely that is wholly unacceptable of elected officers and once more brings into question your suitability for the roles.
So what have I based that view on ?…… Well
The reaction of one of the committee members present at that meeting, Pete Conway. To say he was upset at some of the accusations and statements of his fellow committee members was an understatement.
The aforementioned letter from the committee to the clubs inviting them to the SGM and reminding clubs to bring the requisite delegates.
….. and the most damning of all…… the sudden appearance of pre-prepared voting slips for us to all use.
The result of this mess you over-saw was that neither of the matters the SGM were about were satisfactorily conducted.
The “vote/no-vote” discussion overrid the true debate and the subsequent vote plainly contravened league rules. I personally saw one club with 1 delegate present place a 4 on his voting slip.
It was an embarrassment and a perfect illustration of the sad state of bowls in the Stockport.
…… and all this when so many elsewhere are being so positive and constructive…… Pete Conway with stockportbowls.co.uk, Jamie Bramley with his new found enthusiasm for journalism, 21UPTV, Sunday Night Internet broadcasts, Jimmy Parker with The Waterloo on Sky, The Premier League, 21up.co.uk.
Its unfortunate but unlikely that the individuals at whom these comments are aimed will ever read this post. But it is also perfectly illustrative of some of the problems we have.
28th February 2008 was only a small battle lost, but we have clearly reached a bowling zeitgeist and people have to decide NOW whether we drag the game kicking and screaming into a new age or play it the old way and watch it die.
You have said it all, of which everything in my opinion was spot on.
Everyone tried their best but you cannot beat a committee that has already got its own agenda before everyone else has arrived.
I felt embarrassed and uncomfortable for Conwaylad as he was made a scapegoat in front of 100+ people.
Originally they stated the media had caused the impression we were their to vote.
It was good to see the other gentleman back Conwaylad up and say
what happened at their particualar meeting.
It runs decidly deeper than a 12 v 10 issue as was displayed lasy night.
I got a message this morning thanking me for recommending each clubs members
stood up to prove they had 4 members there.
This should have been decided by the commitee ages ago.
Same again i said lets have a vote on a vote, they took 50 mins to come to that conclusion.
sensible points and a good turn out of members.
Good point also on Ian Potts he looked the most uncomfortable of the lot that attended the meeting.
As for the comments on HWMC foreigners that is what makes the league competitive and increases
club members/teams in the league.
Although the comments on both sides were distasteful you can understand the Houldsworth
reacting how they did in the heat of the moment having just lost a vote vital to their club
they are then antagonized.
in the S&D and leave them all to wallow in this mess.
I worked my bollocks off to get this SGM called (along with others)
I personally made nearly 100 phone calls sent countless emails and texts and this is the result a farcical hearing.
Ten minutes into the meeting i stood up and ask the question can we have a vote on whether to have a vote?
After wasting fifty minutes of peoples time thats what they decided to do.
The committee laughed in peoples faces didnt come prepared with the signed letters, insulted people and made its own staff out to be a liar in front of 100+people.
12 aside was never going to win not a chance and the votes did not add up.
Members of Cheadle Heath and another club wrote 4 on there voting slips when they only had one delegate attending.
This is a dark day for the game its left a bitter taste on both sides of the coin.
I went up to Keith Fanthom and shook his hand as Romiley played fair right down the line.
I didnt realise until last night that the issue with the game in Stockport is the committee.
For all those that wanted 12 im sorry we all tried our best, nothing more could be done.
The outcome was decided long before we arrived at the Bungalow.
Farcical, and it all started with the opening statement from the commitee, saying that we are here to discuss the rule change under section 11 as Mr Keating had received 13 letters from clubs regarding the change to 10 aside and that we would NOT be taking a vote. Yet after we had argued for 80 odd minutes out came a bag with all the voting slips!!! What the hells that all about. (Ow we just bought them in case a vote was to be had)
What a joke.
I know it is a thankless task being part of the commitee and allot of us just want to bowl (Not that 70 of us will be able to this coming year) but surely they should have been prepared better than this knowing what sort of reception they were going to get from certain clubs.
All i can finish off by saying is "Bring a pen" ![]()
IT'S TEN A-SIDE FOR 2008
24FEB2008
FOUR DAYS TILL SGM
Thursday 28 Feb 2008 is an important date for the club as the Special General Meeting scheduled at the Bungalow will decide the outcome of the vote to ascertain whether the Stockport & District league stays at twelve a-side or begins the 2008 campaign with ten a-side teams. With the LMRCA firmly behind the present twelve man system the outcome on Thursday night could have a direct bearing on not only the future of game in Stockport but on clubs like ourselves. With a squad of nineteen players at the club's disposal a move to ten a-side could seriously limit the number of appearances avalaible to individual players. Make it a date in your diary THURDAY 28 FEB 2008 and come along. Each club has four votes at it's disposal but each delegation must consist of four persons. This Special General Meeting came about after the ten a-side motion by Romiley Arms suprisingly carried at the AGM. Superb work by our own Jamie Bramley managed to drum up enough support (13 clubs) to call this SGM in an attempt to overturn this new rule. The clubs awaits the outcome with bated breath.

NEW COUNTY AFFILLIATION RULING CAUSES A STIR
The B.C.G.B.A announced new rule which could spell trouble for a number of clubs this coming season. The new rule states ;
LET THE PLAYERS PLAY – BOWLERS WORLD FEBRUARY 2008
Many Crown Green bowlers across the country face the prospect of being denied the opportunity to play the sport following a new rule introduced by the governing body. At the recent BCGBA annual general meeting the rule which relates to the BCGBA Club Championships was narrowly passed by the
the county association delegates.
The ruling states that players can now only play in one county club competition that could give them qualification as a representative for more than one county in the BCGBA Club Championships.
In simple terms it means that anyone playing for two clubs in different counties could be breaking the rule. The implications for players across the country are widespread in particular in the Midlands. One county who may suffer are Warwick & Worcester who voted en bloc against the proposition, as they nominate their league champions to go forward to the BCGBA Club Championships. Several clubs in the W&W league include players who travel from the North Midlands, Derbyshire & Shropshire but due to the fact these individuals also play in county cups in their “home” county they now find themselves faced with not being allowed to play in W&W league. One team affected are current W&W league champions King George V who include bowlers from the North Midlands. Club Member Paul Hemmings said “This is a ridiculous rule to introduce. We have members who play every week for us in the league. They do not do it to hopefully qualify for the BCGBA event – they do it because they wish to play in a good standard league to improve their game. It is a violation of people’s freedom & the right to choose where they play bowls”.
Staffordshire CBA who proposed the rule has also caused unrest among some of their own clubs. Mel Evans from Chadsmoor Progressive who are the current county cup winners. Said “Players of all abilities will be denied playing the sport & in turn developing their game. One of the BCGBA’s objectives is to promote, organise & develop the sport of crown green bowls. This ruling certainly does not do that”. He added “I am sure those who voted it in do not fully appreciate the damage it may cause clubs. If bowlers want to travel a few miles to improve their game it is their prerogative. There are clubs across the country who are struggling to field teams & this will not help them”.
Shropshire is another county badly affected by the introduction of the rule. Mick Jones captain of Shropshire champions St Georges said “In Shropshire we have teams including players from Wales, Staffordshire, Warwick & Worcester & Cheshire. They come to play in a competitive game & to deny them the opportunity to play bowls is scandalous. I will certainly be suggesting our county propose to remove or amend this rule at the next BCGBA AGM”.
County secretaries also face the task of how to administer the new ruling. Barry Jones the W&W fixtures secretary said “I simply do not know how counties can monitor this ruling. It will require every county secretary having to check all league / cup matches in other counties to find any individuals who may have broken the rule. It is simply unworkable. If a high profile player played in two county cups it may be spotted but what about the many club players at all levels of the sport that play for two clubs”.
Yorkshire team manager Keith Hatzer is another strong voice against the ruling stating “I am disappointed that this rule got passed. Those who voted for it cannot realise the consequences. So many people across the country who show loyalty to clubs at all levels could now be denied the opportunity to play bowls”. Keith also added “What happens if someone breaks the rule? – nothing is in place to deal with that”.
Nick Newey from Woodfield Social who have won the Staffs county cup nine times in the last eleven years reckons not enough thought went into the proposal. Nick said “At the end of the day the county associations have the right to nominate whoever they wish to represent them at the BCGBA Club Championships”. Nick added “A more sensible rule would be that counties cannot nominate a club to represent them if that club included players who played in more than one county qualification event – then only ONE team in each county may possibly suffer not hundreds of players & clubs across the country. The onus would then be on clubs to decide whether they select players from another county or not knowing the possible consequence of not being allowed to go forward to the club championships”.
Final personal comment from the Bowlers World editor “I was against the proposition as I don’t think it is promoting the game, by stopping players playing. If a player wants to play for one, two or three county cups then so what !!. There seems to be no problem if they play for more than one team in different leagues so what is the difference ?. Any problems could occur if more than one of his/her teams reach the BCGBA team championships but then that is down to the player to sort out”.
We are stuck with the rule for this year but lets hope it gets changed next year if, as many suggest it will be a disaster during 2008..........The Stockport area could be hit quite severely with several bowlers sending woods in a number of counties such as New Mills in Derbyshire, all the Stockport based clubs in Cheshire, Houldsworth WMC have teams affilliated to leagues based in the Greater Manchester county area. Any player competing for say. the Houldsworth , in a another county cup competition would then automatically invalidate themselves from turning out in the Brunner. This is to say the least a short-sighted rule which will prevent players from competing in the game that they love. Hopefully it will only reign for a year before being booted out but the damage to our beloved sport could be long term.
